North sea

Nature

Through the dunes and surrounding fields, there are a lot of cycle and walking paths. In the area you find plenty possibilities for bird watching.  Well known is the “Zwanenwater” near Callantsoog, but also at the “De Putten” near Petten and the “Balgzand” are many birds. 

 


Sportive activities

Facing the De Witte Villa, at walking distance, lies Ooghduyne a holiday resort which has a pool and golf course, which you can visit. For horseback riding you find stables at 1 km. Across the countryside you can make a canoe trip and it is possible to fish at sea  and also kite flying is possible in all its forms.

 


Recreation

After 20 minutes walking on the beach, you arrive at ‘Paal 6’, a restaurant on the beach where you can drink or eat something and enjoy the view.  Also in Julianadorp, Callantsoog, Schagen and Den Helder there are many possibilities to eat and shop. From Den Helder (20 minutes by car) leaves the Ferry to the Isle of Texel and Alkmaar is only 40 minutes away. Like every year there are many  beautifull old ships to see in the Willemsoord Museum Harbour where you also can enjoy a delicious meal or visit a museum. 


Culture

In the harbour of Den Helder it is possible to enter a submarine and also you can visit diverse maritime musea. Also the bastion of Napoleon – situated in Huisduinen; a former fishing village  - is a sight not be missed. And how about the Napoleon Route that leads you along de defences around Den Helder. In the summer there is in Den Helder on Tuesday a market with old Dutch handicrafts. In Schagen, every Thursday in the summer time, people dress up in traditional costume and ride their traditional  open carriages and every Friday in the summer you can visit the traditional cheese market in Alkmaar.
